Disposable battery sizes
Different styles of hearings use different sizes of batteries. Many hearing aids now have a smartphone app to help you monitor battery level. Some hearing aids make a chirping sound at the end of the battery life. Always keep a supply of batteries on hand. Buying the correct hearing aid battery isn’t difficult. Every battery is assigned a numeric code and a color. The four most common hearing aid battery sizes are:
- Yellow (#10) batteries are used in small hearing aids like IIC and CIC devices. However, this battery has a shorter life at about 80 hours.
- Brown (#312) are used for in-the-canal (ITC) or completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids. It can last up to 175 hours.
- Orange (#13) for behind-the-ear (BTE) and in-the-ear (ITE) instruments. They can last up to 240 hours.
- Blue (#675) is the largest battery and it has the longest life. This size is used to power bigger hearing aids. Blue batteries can last as long as 300 hours.
Rechargeable hearing aid batteries
Many people today are enjoying the freedom of rechargeable batteries. Just like your cellphone or tablet, these hearing aids sit in a charging station to recharge the batteries. Like disposable batteries, the amount of time you get per charge depends on the features you use. There are even hearing aids that operate with either rechargeable or disposable batteries. Tips to extend hearing aid battery life

- Wait two minutes after pulling the tab on a new battery before installing in your hearing aid
- Exposure to moisture decreases battery life. Keep hearing aids dry.
- Store hearing aids with the battery door open.
- Keep hearing aids and extra batteries in a cool and dry place.
